Defiant Rum is filtered through ancient Swazi granite to remove impurities and create a cleaner, purer and more approachable, real rum. Removing these impurities makes Defiant more enjoyable in both the present and the future.


We use fresh unshared traditional French oak barrels. By charring the barrels and using our futuristic ultrasonic sound and UV light maturation process, we create the smoothest rum in the world, full of sophistication and depth of flavour.


We cover nothing up. Many rums use the addition of flavours, spices or lots of sugar to cover the unpleasant taste of their rum. As Defiant is made differently from the start, we do not have to do this… it is just perfect the way it is.


Defiant only uses three natural elements, wood, water and Swati sugar cane. By setting ourselves these restrictions, we could not rely on gimmicks or tricks to create the product we have today. Defiant has managed to create its complex flavours from these three simple, natural elements.




Our unique filtering process uses ancient granite to purify our rum, making Defiant cleaner, yet still full of flavour. Defiant is filtered at room temperature, so not chill filtered.


By pulsing ultrasonic waves through both the rum and barrel they become as one creating a smooth, refined taste that is unlike any other Rum.


Using new, unshared barrels made of the finest French Oak, we give Defiant Rum a certain ‘je ne se quois’. Well we do know what it is, it is the taste of the finest charred french oak.


We harness the power of the sun in a specific wavelength in order to make our rum even smoother, with depth of flavour and a golden glow that emanates with the sunshine of Eswatini.


Defiant Rum is made with the finest, purest, low ash Swazi Molasses and fermented for a short time, bringing forth a smooth clean rum. We use molasses instead of sugar cane juice because we prefer the end result.

Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) is a beautiful sun kissed country hidden in at the southern end of sub-Saharan Africa.


Eswatini is one of the smallest countries in Africa; despite this, its climate and topography are diverse, ranging from a cool and mountainous highveld to a hot and dry lowveld.




Eswatini is the 4th largest producer of sugar cane on the African continent. The unique, lush environment is perfect for sugar cane. The by-product of making sugar from sugar cane is molasses. It is this high quality molasses that we used in the production of our rum and its low ash content is perfect for making an exceptionally clean, smooth rum.





Sibebe is a granite mountain in Eswatini, located 28 km from the Defiant Distillery. It is the second-largest monolith in the world and the largest exposed granite pluton, rising 350m above the valley of the Mbuluzi River.


Sibebe rock formed the inspiration for our state of the art granite filtering method, which gives Defiant Rum its exceptional, unmatched purity.
